Food Forest conversion underway

Fall 2016 marked the beginning of Edible Evanston's conversion of the Eggleston Anniversary Orchard into a Food Forest. With the initial planning done, Spring 2017 is when the real work begins.

The March workday saw a path added to the orchard—the breaking of the grid of the original plantings. The April 15th workday will see the addition of plants, the moving of shrubs, and the preparation for rain gardens. Three new rain gardens to help drain the soil and control moisture levels will be dug starting April 17. These, along with the apple/pear guild, will be planted with appropriate plants during the following month.

Be sure to come out and volunteer for our workdays the third Saturday of every month. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Additional volunteer days will be needed during 2017, so sign up for emails or email our volunteer coordinator.
